Another year, another transfer season. All its suspense, surprises, and an ever increasing amount of ridiculous bullshit coming from football news outlets.
In an era of immense player entitlement, through which they have begun to gain a powerful grasp on the management of the clubs they supposedly represent, the 24-hour news cycle has given us fans the gift of non-stop, unsubstantiated claims of transfers, bids, and player malcontentment.
For a perfect example, let’s zoom the clock back a week: the Daily Mirror‘s “sources” claimed that Sir Alex Ferguson, while with his “pals”, was bragging about how he was very confident of signing Robin van Persie to the red side of Manchester. That was, and remains, the central piece of evidence for that particular piece of outstanding reporting.
